President presses ahead with bringing politicians to public hospitals
President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah recently spent approximately six hours inspecting medical facilities and visiting patients at Katutura and Windhoek Central hospitals. The visit forms part of her drive to ensure that, from April 2026, all political office bearers and members of the Public Service Medical Aid Scheme (PSEMAS) utilise state healthcare services.
This initiative aligns with Swapo’s N$85.7 billion development plan, kicked into motion on 1 April 2025, which prioritises upgrading all intermediate hospitals to meet healthcare standards currently only enjoyed in private hospitals.
The plan is outlined in the party’s manifesto implementation document covering the period 2025 to 2030.
Namibian Sun understands that Nandi-Ndaitwah was accompanied on the visit by Vice-President Lucia Witbooi, Prime Minister Elijah Ngurare, health minister Esperance Luvindao, finance minister Ericah Shafudah, National Planning Commission director general Kaire Mbuende, and works minister Veikko Nekundi.
