Red Saturday tomorrow!
The Blood Transfusion Service of Namibia (NamBTS) will be painting Windhoek, Oshakati and Walvis Bay red on Saturday in a bid to fill more than 250 bags of donated blood to mitigate shortages in the country.NamBTS is calling on all potential donors to show up in numbers to achieve this goal which will ensure sufficient blood reserves as the service is expecting critical blood shortages with the upcoming public holidays.
First-time donors are also encouraged to come through, as it will allow them to be part of this life-changing experience.
Members of the public are more than welcome to come with a friend, a colleague or even with their spouse for moral support. The aim is to guarantee our commitment to saving lives.
“Our first Red Saturday was held on 12 April before the Easter weekend and was well supported with over 194 donations, of which 29 were first-time donors. However, we believe with the regular donors in these towns, we are looking forward to surpassing our expectations for donations, and we have faith that Namibians will come out and show their love, passion and hearts during our Red Saturday,” says Zita Tobin, NamBTS Manager: Marketing and Donor Relations. “With the three upcoming public holidays, this campaign seeks to ensure sufficient blood supplies for the country and to foster the culture of Namibians showing up for each other in times of need. So, come on, Namibia, we need a minimum of 250 blood donations this Saturday!”
Donors need to have eaten before, be older than 16 and younger than 65, weigh more than 50 kg and lead a sexually safe and healthy lifestyle.
