The City of Windhoek has confirmed to Network Media Hub that its planned megawatt solar PV project has been delayed for nearly two years, with the procurement process still under review at the CEO’s office for final input.
Officials said once the review is concluded, revised timelines will be communicated to stakeholders and the public.
The update follows a presentation made on 18 August by the Namibia Investment Promotion and Development Board (NIPDB) during its visit to Kavango West, where the board announced the establishment of an investment committee and highlighted the stalled project. NMH made a follow-up enquiry with the City, which acknowledged the prolonged delays but stressed its commitment to advancing renewable energy in a transparent and sustainable manner.
“The City of Windhoek remains committed to advancing renewable energy initiatives and ensuring that projects of this scale are implemented in a manner that is sustainable, transparent, and aligned with our broader energy security objectives,” said Herold Akwenye, spokesperson of the City of Windhoek.
