Yango rolls out verification PIN
Ride-hailing service Yango has rolled out a new PIN code feature in Namibia to boost passenger safety and improve trip reliability.Launched this week, the feature generates a unique four-digit PIN for each journey, which appears on both the passenger’s and driver’s mobile apps. Passengers must share the PIN with their driver before the trip starts, ensuring the right rider gets into the right vehicle.
“With the launch of our matching PIN codes, we are making a major leap towards further building trust and ensuring a safe riding experience in Namibia,” said Chisom Anoke, director of operations for Anglophone Africa at Yango Ride.
“This innovative feature not only makes it easier to identify the right vehicle but also highlights our dedication to using technology for the benefit of our community.”
Anoke added that Yango aims to ensure that every trip is not only convenient but also dependable and secure for both passengers and partner drivers.
Safety remains a core focus for the platform, with more than 25 safety-related features currently available before, during and after trips. These include monitoring of speed and driving behaviour, emergency SOS access and the ability for passengers to share trip details with trusted contacts.
Yango says the PIN system is designed to reduce the risk of mistaken pick-ups and impersonation, particularly in busy urban areas such as Windhoek.
Drivers can enable the pick-up code option through the Safety Centre in the Yango Pro app, after which it will automatically apply to all future trips.
The PIN code rollout follows the recent introduction of personalised safety checklists within the Yango app.
These checklists provide passengers with real-time visibility of safety measures in place during a ride and prompt users to activate additional security options, such as sharing their live route with trusted contacts or updating their profile details.
