Araes honoured for inspiring vegetable harvest
Fransina Araes, from Eitsam-!ub Pos Farm near Pomros, approximately 80 kilometres south-west of Gibeon, marked her family vegetable harvest day on 14 May 2026. The occasion highlighted the vegetables of her hard work and commitment to sustainable household food production.
Araes is a member of the Gibeon-based Backyard Container Gardeners Group, a community initiative that promotes small-scale food gardening and self-sufficiency among households in the Hardap Region.
Members of RISE, together with fellow backyard container gardeners from Gibeon, Maltahöhe, Mariental, Stampriet, Hoachanas and Rehoboth, congratulate Araes on her achievement.
In a message of support, members praised her for setting an example through determination and perseverance. Araes has demonstrated what can be achieved through commitment and hard work. Her success serves as an inspiration to many aspiring gardeners across the region.
"We see you, we appreciate you and we celebrate your achievement. Your dedication motivates others to follow in your footsteps and emulate the legacy you are building for future generations," the message read.
The harvest celebration not only recognised Araes' accomplishment but also highlighted the growing impact of backyard and container gardening initiatives in strengthening food security and community resilience across the Hardap Region.
