B1 bridge construction expected to begin before December
Construction of two bridges along the B1 road is expected to begin before 1 December, the Minister of Works and Transport Veikko Nekundi has told the National Assembly. Responding to a question about progress on a permanent solution to road safety concerns, Nekundi said the bridge designs had been completed and approved, with N$70 million allocated for the project.
He further stated that the bridges were expected to address concerns that had prompted the introduction of temporary measures on the road. He told MPs that the contractor should be on site before the end of November, subject to all arrangements proceeding as planned. The remaining bridges are expected to be addressed in the next financial year. The question was raised amid concerns about the impact of the road situation on workers who have to take alternative routes to reach their workplaces.
Nakundi said the temporary measures were intended to address immediate safety concerns while preparations for permanent infrastructure continued.
