Windhoek (ek/ak) – A 34-year-old woman has been arrested in Mariental after her four-month-old baby was allegedly left at a shebeen for several hours, according to police.

Police said the child’s parents had gone drinking in the informal settlement of Takarania and later became involved in an argument. Both allegedly left the shebeen, leaving the baby behind. A member of the public later found the child and took it on Friday to a police unit dealing with gender-based violence. The couple has two children together, both of whom were placed in a shelter for their safety. The mother was arrested, while the second parent was still being sought when the report was issued.
