Three men arrested on Tuesday in connection with alleged taxi robberies were today denied bail and remanded in custody when they appeared in the Windhoek Magistrate’s Court.

The trio are accused of posing as taxi drivers and robbing passengers, mainly women. They allegedly used taxis displaying fake numbers and registration plates, threatened passengers with knives and forced them to transfer money from their bank accounts.

The vehicles allegedly used in the robberies have since been impounded.

The suspects are Pinias Hainghumbi (31), Simon Ndjene Samuel (36) and Jason Haindongo (27).

The matter was postponed to 11 February 2027 for further investigations.

The Windhoek City Police Service has urged members of the public who may have been victims to come forward and open cases against the suspects. Commuters have also been urged to verify taxi details using the City Police taxi verification app before boarding.
