Capricorn supports Namibia’s next generation of cybersecurity talent

As October marks Cyber Awareness Month, the Capricorn Group has contributed N$75 000 to the Namibia University of Science and Technology (NUST) in support of the 12th Namibia National Cyber Security Competition (NNCSC). The contribution forms part of the competition’s silver sponsorship package, and Capricorn is taking part in the judging process. Technology is at the core of how Capricorn Group serves its customers and connects people to opportunity. As services become more digital, trust in them depends on strong security and the people who build and defend it. Supporting the NNCSC is a practical way to help develop those skills in Namibia, with relevance that lasts well beyond October.

The NNCSC puts students in a simulated organisational computing environment. Working as defenders, they must secure systems while a red team attempts to compromise them. The attack-and-defence format tests how participants identify threats and respond under pressure, giving them experience beyond classroom study. This year's competition brought together teams from the Namibia University of Science and Technology (NUST), the University of Namibia (UNAM), the International University of Management (IUM) and the International Training College Lingua (ITCL). NUST Team A secured first place, followed by ITCL Team A in second place and NUST Team B in third place.

Capricorn plays a vital role that goes beyond simply providing funding. As Connectors of Positive Change, the Group uses its expertise and industry insight to help bridge the gap between student learning and workplace expectations, supporting and inspiring the next generation of cybersecurity professionals. “Technology can open new ways to serve people, but it must be built on security that earns their trust. The NNCSC gives students the chance to put their skills to work against realistic challenges. We are pleased to support their development and the cyber talent Namibia will need as its digital economy grows,” said Marlize Horn, Group Chief Brand and Corporate Affairs Officer, Capricorn Group. The 2026 competition carried the theme “Security is a state of mind, are you in?” For more information, visit www.nncsc.net.
