Choppies opens Gobabis store
Choppies has officially opened its new store in Gobabis, bringing its total number of shops in Namibia to 25.
The opening was attended by Omaheke Governor Pijoo Nganate, Choppies chief executive officer Ramachandran Ottapathu, Head Office Manager Stefan Weydeman, Gobabis Mayor Elvin Gariseb and members of the community.
Speaking at the official opening, Nganate said new investments should create lasting opportunities for people and communities through job creation, support for local enterprises and economic growth.
He welcomed the employment opportunities created by the new store, saying 32 local residents had so far been employed, with the majority of the positions filled by previously unemployed young people. The store is expected to create 33 employment opportunities in total.
Nganate said the investment would contribute to the regional economy and the wellbeing of ordinary Namibians.
He also encouraged Choppies to establish supply agreements with local farmers, butchers and fresh produce growers, noting that Omaheke is a primary producer of agricultural commodities. According to Nganate, sourcing products from local producers would help keep money circulating within the region while creating further opportunities for local businesses.
Weydeman reaffirmed Choppies’ commitment to investing in Gobabis and supporting the local community. He encouraged farmers and local producers to partner with the retailer by supplying locally produced goods.
