The management of Namibian Police Force at Okahandja Police Station met with church leaders on Tuesday, 12 May 2026, to discuss crime prevention strategies and strengthen collaboration aimed at maintaining peace and safety in the Okahandja community. The meeting brought together police management and various church representatives to deliberate on the role of faith-based organisations in supporting crime prevention and promoting social cohesion.

During the meeting, the Station Commander Mathias Tjiramba expressed appreciation to church leaders for their continued prayers and support towards the police, acknowledging the role churches play in fostering moral values and community stability. He encouraged church leaders to maintain close cooperation with law enforcement and urged them to report any criminal activities within their communities without delay.

“The timely reporting of crime is essential in ensuring the safety, protection and wellbeing of all residents,” he said. The discussions also touched on concerns regarding divisions allegedly being created within communities by certain churches accusing individuals of being responsible for misfortunes or social problems.

Police management urged religious leaders to instead use their platforms to promote peace, unity and understanding among community members.

Church leaders in attendance welcomed the engagement and reaffirmed their commitment to working hand-in-hand with the police in efforts to combat crime and maintain harmony in the town. The meeting concluded with a shared commitment between law enforcement and the church community to continue building stronger partnerships in the interest of a safer and more united Okahandja.
