Donations to the National Disaster Fund collapsed by more than 95% over three years, dropping from N$61.9 million in 2021 to just N$2.6 million in 2023, an auditor general’s report shows.

The figures appear in the auditor general’s review of the fund’s financial statements for the years ending 31 March 2021, 2022 and 2023.

According to the report, donation income declined from N$61.9 million in 2021 to N$41.7 million in 2022 before slumping further to N$2.6 million in 2023.

The report shows that both local and foreign donations contributed to the fund's income.

Local donations amounted to N$61.9 million in 2021 but dropped to just over N$1 million in 2022, while foreign contributions accounted for N$38.9 million in that year.

The auditor general issued an unqualified audit opinion on the fund’s financial statements for the period under review.
