Junior councillors sharpen leadership skills
The City of Windhoek Junior Council has strengthened its leadership and teamwork skills through a three-day Transformational Leadership Training held at Rock Lodge in Okahandja from 17 to 19 July 2026.
The training was aimed at equipping Junior Councillors with essential leadership competencies, personal development skills and team-building techniques to enhance their effectiveness throughout their term of office.
The programme focused on developing a strong team culture while helping participants unlock their individual and collective potential. It also sought to strengthen communication, improve planning and project management skills, and promote accountability and personal responsibility among the young leaders.
Through a combination of presentations, practical exercises, reflective discussions and interactive team-building activities, the Junior Councillors were given an opportunity to develop both theoretical knowledge and practical leadership skills.
The sessions encouraged participants to reflect on their roles and responsibilities while exploring ways to work more effectively as a team and contribute meaningfully to their communities. The training is expected to support the Junior Councillors in carrying out their responsibilities with greater confidence and purpose, while fostering a culture of responsible leadership and active participation.
The programme also highlighted the importance of effective communication, collaboration and accountability in achieving shared goals. By the end of the training, participants had gained practical knowledge and skills intended to empower them to become confident, responsible and impactful young leaders who can positively contribute to the City of Windhoek and the wider community.
