Residents of Katutura East turned out in large numbers on Saturday to support the City of Windhoek’s Mayoral Clean-Up Campaign, demonstrating their commitment to maintaining a clean and healthy environment. The clean-up took place near the Katutura East Constituency Office, with residents of different age groups, particularly young people, joining the initiative.

The campaign also covered areas within the constituency, including Sonder Water, behind Shandumbala. Residents were commended for their efforts to keep their neighbourhoods clean, with several areas already in good condition.

Windhoek councillor Jesaja Ikali praised the community for its participation and encouraged residents to continue taking responsibility for their surroundings. He emphasised the importance of setting a positive example for children, saying that young people learn about cleanliness and environmental responsibility through the actions of adults.

Ikali said fostering a culture of cleanliness among children would help build a future generation that values and protects the environment.

The City of Windhoek has reaffirmed its commitment to restoring the capital’s reputation as one of Africa’s cleanest cities, with community participation remaining an important part of the campaign. The next clean-up is scheduled for 17 October 2026 in the Katutura East Constituency, around the Gemente area. The exact meeting point will be announced in due course. The city has thanked Katutura East residents for their participation and urged the community to maintain its efforts towards a cleaner and more sustainable Windhoek.
