N$270m debt puts Rehoboth finances under strain
Rehoboth Town Council’s revenue collection remains a critical challenge, with accounts receivable standing at almost N$270 million despite an 8% improvement in revenue compared with June. The figures were presented by the chief executive officer during the council’s ordinary meeting as part of its monthly strategic forward report for August.
The Chief Executive Officer Ronald Windswaai, said revenue had improved by 8% compared with June, “We are still there at the stage where we are not able to collect as what we are supposed to do,” he said. The council’s accounts receivable stood at almost N$270 million, making it difficult to address the issue, according to the CEO Debt collection strategies are among the activities being considered by the council to improve its financial sustainability.
The council is also looking at private partnerships with development partners to leverage external resources.
The financial challenges form part of the broader strategic objectives and activities outlined in the council’s August report. The report also includes initiatives relating to service delivery, infrastructure development, land delivery, housing, roads, water, sanitation and waste management.
