Namibia-Germany talks turn to oil, skills and reparations
Namibia’s colonial past, skills development and the country’s emerging oil and gas industry were among the key issues discussed when Speaker of the National Assembly Saara Kuugongelwa-Amadhila met a delegation of German Federal Parliament members on Tuesday. The courtesy visit provided a platform for both sides to exchange views on matters of mutual interest while reaffirming the longstanding bilateral relationship between Namibia and Germany.
Reparations linked to Namibia’s colonial history featured prominently in the discussions. Both sides acknowledged the significance of the matter and noted that it continues to receive the highest level of attention from their respective governments. The discussions also focused on skills development and Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), with the two sides sharing experiences in these areas.
Germany’s contribution to development projects in Namibia was also highlighted, particularly initiatives focused on skills development and vocational education. Looking ahead, the German delegation expressed its readiness to support Namibia as the country develops its emerging oil and gas industries. The delegation also wished Namibia success in harnessing these opportunities to promote sustainable economic growth and national development.
Namibia and Germany maintain multifaceted relations shaped by their long history. Their cooperation extends to development initiatives, investment in green hydrogen production and tourism, alongside other areas of mutual interest.
