Nedbank boosts homeownership
For many Namibians, owning a home is a dream that anchors families and builds long-term financial security. However, with entry-level apartments in Windhoek starting at N$525,000 and modest houses reaching the N$2 million mark, rising prices and steep upfront costs have created a "lockout effect" for many young professionals.
In a strategic response to the country’s widening housing affordability gap, Nedbank Namibia has launched the “Unlock Your First Home” initiative. The bank has set aside a ring-fenced lending portfolio exclusively for first-time buyers to make homeownership more accessible and achievable.
Nedbank Namibia head of lending, Chane Isaaks, said the bank recognises that buying a home is about more than just qualifying for a loan; it is about overcoming the initial barriers that prevent many from taking the first step.
One of the most significant hurdles for aspiring homeowners is covering bond and transfer costs. To address this, Nedbank is offering up to 108% financing to its clients, effectively eliminating the need for large upfront deposits. This is paired with competitive interest rates set at 1% below the bank’s Home Loan Base Rate.
Isaaks said this approach is intended to give hardworking Namibians "room to breathe," allowing them to focus on building their future rather than battling financial roadblocks.
To ensure a seamless transition, the campaign also focuses on turnkey homes that are ready for immediate occupation. Beyond extending credit, Nedbank is positioning itself as a partner in financial wellness through its broader #GetMoneyFit mission.
Isaaks said that by helping families move from renting to owning, the bank is not just financing a building, but strengthening stability, dignity, and economic growth within Namibian communities. Through these innovative measures and strong financial backing, Nedbank Namibia aims to turn the dream of homeownership into a healthy, achievable reality.
