Okahandja hosts Easter blood drive
Residents of Okahandja are encouraged to roll up their sleeves and make a life-saving difference when the Blood Transfusion Service of Namibia(NamBTS) will host a blood donation clinic at the Town Hall on Wednesday, 1 April 2026, from 11h00 to 18h00. Held during the Easter period, the initiative highlights the values of sacrifice, hope and giving, reminding Namibians of the powerful impact a single blood donation can have. One unit of donated blood has the potential to save up to three lives, making each donor a vital link in the country’s healthcare system.
The Blood Transfusion Service of Namibia continues to promote a culture of voluntary, non-remunerated blood donation, with a particular appeal to individuals with O-type blood, which is often in high demand. Donated blood plays a critical role in saving the lives of mothers experiencing complications during childbirth, cancer patients undergoing treatment, trauma victims, and patients requiring surgical procedures.
Despite advances in modern medicine, there is still no substitute for human blood, underlining the ongoing need for regular donations. Health officials also reassure the public that donating blood is safe and does not weaken the immune system, as the body quickly replaces the donated blood. To be eligible to donate, individuals must be between the ages of 16 and 70 at their first donation, weigh at least 50 kilograms, have eaten within four hours prior to donating, and be in good general health while maintaining a sexually safe lifestyle.
Community members are urged to take part in this simple yet impactful act of kindness. “Let your Easter be meaningful, impactful and life-saving,” organisers said, calling on residents to support the national effort to ensure a stable and sufficient blood supply.
By coming together, Namibians can continue to give hope and save lives—one donation at a time.
