Okahandja joins national informal settlement upgrading programme

Okahandja Municipality has become the latest local authority to join the National Informal Settlement Upgrading Programme after signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the National Housing Enterprise during a ceremony held in Windhoek on Friday. Speaking at the event, NHE Chief Executive Officer Gisbertus Mukulku urged the municipality to fast-track the registration of residents on fully serviced erven to enable the commencement of housing construction in the Garden Town area.


The Chief Executive Officer of Okahandja Municipality, Alfons Tjitombo welcomed the initiative, stating that it would significantly improve the lives of residents. He noted that the provision of decent and affordable housing has been a long-standing challenge, which the municipality has prioritised for the benefit of its residents.

The signing ceremony was also attended by the Chairperson of Management Committee, Councillor Patricia Hawaes.
