Old Mutual Foundation invests N$1.5m to expand Chair and Desk Initiative
The Old Mutual Foundation is proud to announce the schools selected for the 2026 Chair and Desk Initiative, marking the programme's largest investment since its launch in 2023. Building on three years of measurable impact, the Foundation has increased its investment to N$1.5 million, up from N$1 million in previous years. This expanded commitment will support 12 schools across four regions and benefit more than 2 000 learners.
The initiative will help create safer, more comfortable learning environments while improving access to the furniture learners need to participate fully in the classroom. 2026 beneficiary schools Oshikoto Region • Ondera Combined School (new supply) • Onamishu Combined School (new supply) • Nehale Secondary School (repairs) Omusati Region • Holden Uulenga Combined School (new supply) • Jerry Ekandjo Combined School (new supply) • Uahekua Herunga Primary School (repairs) Ohangwena Region • Ondobe Secondary School (new supply) • Nanghonda Combined School (new supply) • Elakalapwa Combined School (repairs) Otjozondjupa Region • Okondjatu Combined School (new supply) • Tsumkwe Secondary School (new supply) • Osire Primary School (repairs) The programme combines infrastructure support with skills development.
Through partnerships with vocational training institutions, new desks and chairs are manufactured while existing furniture is repaired and restored. In 2026, Old Mutual will once again work with two vocational training centres, creating practical learning opportunities for vocational learners while delivering sustainable solutions for schools. All furniture manufacturing, refurbishment and deliveries are expected to be completed by the end of February 2027. "Every learner deserves a safe and comfortable environment in which to learn and grow," said Mignon du Preez, Group Marketing, Public Affairs and Sustainability Executive at Old Mutual Namibia.
"Through the Chair and Desk Initiative, we are investing in better learning conditions while creating practical skills development opportunities for vocational learners. By increasing our investment to N$1.5 million, we can extend the programme's reach and support more than 2 000 learners across Namibia." As the programme enters its fourth year, the Old Mutual Foundation remains committed to supporting education through practical, measurable interventions that strengthen schools, empower communities and create opportunities for future generations.
