Otjomuise residents closer to new water point
Residents of Otjomuise are set to have easier access to clean water following the construction of a new communal water point at Erf 3372 on Bombay Street. The project, driven by a request from the community, is intended to reduce the long distances residents previously travelled to collect water from Istanbul Street.
The request came to my office on the 18th of April from the community though their representative Hilda Tseitseimou , Tseitseimou said access to water had been a challenge for residents, who were forced to walk considerable distances to reach the nearest communal water point. Following an assessment of the community's needs, the City of Windhoek approved the establishment of a new water point closer to residents.
The site was officially handed over and inspected on 7 July 2026, when the appointed contractor was introduced to the location and briefed on the scope of work and site conditions.
And the site inspection and handover was done by myself and City officials on the 07 July 2026.
Construction is now under way, with the project progressing steadily. During a site visit on 7 August, City of Windhoek councillor Ivan Skrywer joined community members to observe progress on the project and assess the work being carried out. For residents, the development is expected to make a basic but essential service more accessible and reduce the burden of travelling long distances to collect water. The City said the project forms part of its commitment to improving access to basic municipal services while responding to the needs of communities.
It added that improving reliable access to essential services remains central to its efforts to enhance living conditions and promote sustainable service delivery across Windhoek.
