Plans underway for new Reho fire station

The Rehoboth town council has approved a budget of approximately N$4 million to build a new fire station at the town.
The task of making this dream a reality by February next year has been assigned to Penatu Trading.
The town council says the construction of the new fire station will create jobs for 20 skilled and semi-skilled residents.
Stanley Keis of the town's fire services believes the new station will be a huge asset for firefighting in the town. “It will help us a lot. At the moment we cannot house firefighters at the station when they are on duty. We first have to pick them up before we can react and by that time a few shacks had already burned down,” he said.
Keis says the Rehoboth fire department's biggest headache is still wildfires, and the improved capacity the new fire station will offer, will reduce fire damage.
“Sometimes people weld and the dry grass catches fire or people throw cigarette butts out of the vehicle's windows. This quickly causes a small fire that can spread dramatically,” he said.
