Prime Minister steps in as vendors raise alarm over roadworks
Prime Minister Elijah Ngurare met the City of Windhoek, the Ministry of Urban and Rural Development and the Ministry of Works and Transport to address vendors' concerns yesterday. The vendors, residing alongside the Eneas Peter Nanyemba Road leading to the Havana 4-way Intersection, raised concerns about how the ongoing road construction and other developments in the area are affecting their business operations in a letter they sent to Ngurare.
The City of Windhoek reported that the street vendors were met on Monday this week and are satisfied with the new consultative approach adopted by the City and the Ongos contractor.
Ngurare remarked that any development must always take into account the views of the affected communities. He commended the City of Windhoek for the development earmarked for the informal settlement and advised them to always put residents first before anything else, while urging the line ministries to continue monitoring the process until completion.
