The Municipality of Okahandja has today started replacing sewage pipes in Oshetu No. 2 following complaints from residents about sewage water in the area. The municipality’s technical team is carrying out the work as part of efforts to improve sanitation infrastructure and service delivery in the community.

Residents have been urged to exercise caution around the work areas, follow safety signage and cooperate with the technical team while the replacement work is under way. According to CityMender Namibia, a platform that provides residents with a free and easy way to report, track and update infrastructure and service-delivery problems, 53 issues have so far been reported in Okahandja and Osona.

Of these, 34 relate to roads and potholes, nine concern waste and sewage, while 10 involve water and sanitation.

Issues reported through the platform include illegal dumping, sewage leaks, blocked storm drains and street lights that are not working. CityMender Namibia aims to provide a live picture of infrastructure conditions across the country by allowing communities to report problems and monitor service-delivery concerns.

Residents are encouraged to download the CityMender Namibia app and report infrastructure and service-delivery problems in their communities. The reports help create a live picture of infrastructure conditions and can assist authorities in identifying areas requiring attention.
