To mark the 84th birthday of the late President Dr Hage Geingob, the former D1210 was ceremoniously renamed Hage Geingob Drive in Rehoboth last week.
The ceremony brought together dignitaries, community members, youth and members of the Geingob family.
Mayor Justin Coetzee paid tribute to Geingob as "a man whose name will resonate through time" and emphasised that the street is a visible symbol of the former head of state's lasting legacy.
The motion to rename the street was introduced by Councillor Jacky Khariseb. Another street will be named after the traditional Baster leader, Kaptein Hans Diergaardt.
In an emotional speech, Monica Geingos, widow of the former president, recalled Geingob's humble origins and his conviction that education was the key to justice. "He often said: You can't cheat education - reading is essential," said Geingos.
After the ceremony, she visited a nursing home, distributed food and presented a birthday cake in memory of her husband.
The day concluded with a tree planting by young people in honour of Geingob and founding president Dr. Sam Nujoma.
