Who, what should take Von Francois’ place?

The City of Windhoek (CoW) called on residents to submit recommendations of what should be erected on the site in front of their head office, which was previously occupied by the statue of Curt von Francois.
According to a public notice by the CoW, this process follows the Council's resolution in October last year, which called for the removal of the Curt van Francois statue and to conduct public consultations on the use of the site.
In light of this, "residents are requested to submit their recommendations in writing with a motivation thereof".
The City said that proposed recommendations can be but are not limited to contemporary public art, statues or monuments of local prominent historic figures.
Submissions can be dropped off at the City of Windhoek tourism office in Independence Avenue, or the City Museum House in Robert Mugabe Avenue.
