Windhoek needs N$190m for road maintenance

The City of Windhoek requires approximately N$190 million for preventative maintenance of tarred roads, as the capital seeks funding to maintain its road infrastructure. The funding requirement was highlighted yesterday during a briefing by the city to the National Assembly Standing Committee on Economy and Industry, Public Administration and Planning on its economic development.

During the briefing, the city indicated that funding from the Roads Fund Administration (RFA) had increased from N$15 million to N$45 million. However, this remains below the approximately N$190 million the city says it needs for preventative maintenance of tarred roads.

The funding gap raises concerns about the resources available to maintain the capital’s roads and preserve their condition. Preventative maintenance helps preserve existing road infrastructure and can reduce the need for more extensive repairs.
