Windhoek records 2000 fire call-outs
Windhoek records about 2000 fire call-outs annually, with the city’s fire services responding to 99% of them, said the mayor of City of Windhoek Sakaria Uunona during the official of International Fire Safety Week in Windhoek, Uunona said 70% of the incidents attended were structural fires, with 40% occurring in informal settlements.
He said the challenges facing informal settlements were well known and that the city was working to address them.
The remaining 1% of fire incidents are not attended because some residents do not know how to notify the fire brigade, he said.
