Windhoek repaints 132km of road markings to improve road safety
The City of Windhoek maintained approximately 132.72km of road markings between May and September 2026 as part of efforts to improve road safety, visibility and traffic flow across the capital. The update was given during the City of Windhoek's 9th Ordinary Council Meeting held in Windhoek yesterday. The Mayor Sakarias Uunona said the maintenance programme covered several areas, including the Central Business District, Commercial Road, Northern Industrial Area, Katutura, Windhoek West and Dorado Valley.
The programme forms part of the municipality's ongoing efforts to improve the visibility of road markings, reduce the risk of accidents and ensure that motorists can clearly identify traffic controls. According to Uunona, the work is being carried out through the deployment of maintenance teams in different areas, with priority given to roads where markings have faded and require attention. The city said it would continue maintaining road markings in priority areas to ensure that traffic signs and road markings remain visible to motorists, pedestrians and other road users.
The municipality said the initiative was part of its broader commitment to maintaining and improving road infrastructure while creating a safer and more accessible city for residents and visitors. However, the Mayor did not indicate how much the programme had cost, how many kilometres of road markings still require maintenance or when the next phase of the work would be completed.
