Windhoek warns against Groot Aub land scams
The City of Windhoek has cautioned members of the public against individuals unlawfully claiming to sell or allocate municipal land in Groot Aub.
The warning was issued in a public notice dated 24 July 2026, following concerns over possible fraudulent land transactions in the area. The City advised residents not to enter into agreements or make payments to any individual, group or organisation claiming to have the authority to sell or allocate municipal land in Groot Aub.
According to the notice, the City of Windhoek is the only lawful authority responsible for the allocation, sale, leasing and administration of municipal land in the area. It warned that anyone claiming to sell or allocate municipal land without the approval of the City is acting unlawfully.
The municipality further reminded the public that municipal land is not sold through private individuals and that land allocation and sales are processed through the City of Windhoek. It also warned that any unauthorised sale or allocation of municipal land is illegal and could result in financial losses and legal consequences for those involved. The City urged members of the public to protect themselves against fraud by not paying money to anyone claiming to sell or allocate municipal land in Groot Aub.
Residents were advised to verify all land-related information directly with the City of Windhoek before entering into any transaction and to report suspicious land sales, allocations or suspected fraudulent activities to the Windhoek City Police or the Namibian Police.
