Youth desk brings winter relief to Kriess
The Hardap Region Governor’s Youth Desk has launched its winter drive campaign, an initiative aimed at providing warmth, sustenance and support to vulnerable communities across the region during the cold winter months. The campaign commenced with a community feeding programme in Kriess, a rural settlement located approximately 50 kilometres east of Gibeon. Youth volunteers joined forces to prepare and serve hot meals to residents, bringing much-needed relief and comfort to community members.
The initiative received an overwhelmingly positive response, with both young people and residents turning out in large numbers to support and applaud the programme. The successful visit to Kriess has set a strong precedent for the remainder of the winter drive campaign. By mobilising young people to serve their own communities, the Governor’s Youth Desk is fostering a spirit of unity, compassion and social responsibility throughout the Hardap Region.
The campaign highlights the role of youth in community development and demonstrates how proactive leadership can contribute to improving the lives of vulnerable residents. Meanwhile, the Governor’s Youth Desk has also extended its support to education through a donation of sanitary pads to Samuel Veldskoen Primary School. The initiative forms part of efforts to promote girl-child education, health and hygiene, while addressing period poverty among learners. The donation aims to ensure that no learner misses out on education due to a lack of access to basic sanitary products.
Receiving the donation, school principal Mr Isaaks expressed his gratitude, saying the contribution had come at the right time and would provide valuable support to learners in need. The Governor’s Youth Desk said it remains committed to uplifting communities through practical interventions that address both social and educational challenges across the region. As the winter drive continues to other constituencies, residents can expect further initiatives aimed at supporting vulnerable groups and strengthening community solidarity.
