Youth explore new paths at Rehoboth expo
Agriculture, education and entrepreneurship took centre stage on the second day of the Rehoboth Youth Connect Festival & Expo 2026, with young people encouraged to look beyond traditional employment and explore opportunities that could turn their skills into sustainable livelihoods.
The Expo brought together hundreds of residents and young people with institutions offering opportunities in livestock production, crop farming, agro-processing, agribusiness, vocational training, higher education, business development and financing.
Among the exhibitors were the Livestock and Livestock Products Board of Namibia, Namibia Agronomic Board, Agribank of Namibia, Namibia University of Science and Technology, Namibia Training Authority, International College of Lingua and Development Workshop Namibia (DWN), as well as local arts and crafts exhibitors.
Visitors engaged with experts through information sessions, live demonstrations and one-on-one consultations, gaining practical advice on education, funding, business support and career development.
Rehoboth Town Council Acting Strategic Executive for Community Services and Local Economic Development, Desire Pieters, said the Expo was created to bring opportunities directly to residents. She urged young people to take advantage of the platform and engage with institutions that could help them move from seeking jobs to creating them.
"It is a known fact, and institutions concur, that the people of the south are not participating in programmes which are available. We made it our responsibility to do the legwork and open the doors for our people to benefit," Pieters said. DWN also used the Expo to raise awareness about affordable housing opportunities for qualifying residents. Interested residents can visit the DWN office at the Rehoboth Town Council premises for information and guidance on available programmes and application procedures.
The Expo continues throughout the week, with the Council calling on young people, job seekers, aspiring entrepreneurs, farmers, particularly those in the Rehoboth Townlands, and school leavers to attend and explore the opportunities on offer.
