Fistball season kicks off on Valentine’s Day
The Namibian fistball season gets underway on Saturday, with the opening tournament at the SKW grounds, promising a full day of high-energy action to mark Valentine’s Day.
Teams will compete across four categories - A, B, U15 and U13 - all vying for early-season honours and an opportunity to set the tone for the months ahead.
In the premier A category, defending champions CFC 1 will be looking to build on last year’s success. Their club counterparts, CFC 2, are also tipped as strong contenders following an impressive showing in last season’s preliminary rounds. They will be joined by SKW 1, SKW 2 and SFC 1, as well as the U18 Kader, in the battle for semi-final spots. Matches in this division will be played over two 10-minute halves, with the semi-finals and final decided on a best-of-three sets basis.
The B category features SFC 2, SFC 3, SKW 3, SKW 4, CFC 3 and the Damen Kader. The teams will compete in a round-robin format, with the top two sides progressing directly to the final. Defending champions SKW 3 will aim to retain their title, while challengers look to dethrone them.
The junior divisions are also expected to deliver exciting encounters. In the U15 category, SKW 1 and SKW 2 will face off in matches played over two 10-minute halves. The U13 competition will see SKW 1, SKW 2 and CFC 1 compete in two five-minute halves, offering spectators a glimpse of the next generation of Namibian fistball talent.
