• City Council has approved the renaming of Rand Street in Khomasdal to Ambassador Joshua //Hoebeb Street. The decision recognises the late ambassador’s lifelong contributions to education, community development and the country’s struggle for independence.

Born on 14 August 1935 in the Omaheke Region, Ambassador //Hoebeb, affectionately known as Meester, was a teacher, politician, community activist, and diplomat. He played a pivotal role in political mobilisation and education, particularly in Katutura, and endured imprisonment and harassment under the apartheid regime, remaining a steadfast symbol of anti-apartheid principles.

• The council also approved a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) to promote sustainable development and environmental stewardship across the city. The partnership will focus on tackling water scarcity, improving waste management, combating climate change, and encouraging community involvement in conservation initiatives.

This collaboration supports the City of Windhoek’s vision for a greener, more resilient, and inclusive urban environment.
