Namibia will host a High-Level Validation Workshop on a Step-by-Step Guide for Trading Goods under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) from 5–6 February 2026 in Windhoek, marking a critical shift from policy formulation to practical, business-ready implementation of the continental trade agreement.

The workshop will bring together key trade policymakers, private sector representatives and development partners to validate practical tools designed to help Namibian businesses — particularly micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs), women, and youth entrepreneurs — trade more easily and competitively across African markets under the AfCFTA.

The event represents a significant milestone in Namibia’s AfCFTA journey, focusing on simplifying procedures, improving access to information, and enabling businesses to operationalise AfCFTA opportunities with confidence.

The workshop is jointly organised by the Ministry of International Relations and Trade (MIRT), the Namibia Chamber of Commerce and Industry (NCCI), and the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA), with financial support from the Government of Japan.

Why it matters

As the world’s largest free trade area by membership, the AfCFTA presents substantial opportunities for Namibian businesses. However, these opportunities can only be realised if firms are able to navigate the agreement effectively.

The two tools being validated — a practical trade guide and a digital information portal — are intended to reduce red tape, close information gaps, and provide clear, step-by-step guidance for exporters and traders seeking to access regional and continental markets.
