No extra fees on CashPlus, says FNB
FNB Namibia has noted concerns, relating to additional charges or conditions being instituted prior to customers doing cash withdrawals or deposits.
FNB Namibia would like to reiterate that such practices are not permitted. FNB CashPlus is a service designed to advance financial inclusion by bringing essential banking services closer to communities across Namibia, especially in areas where access to physical bank branches is limited.
This service plays an important role in uplifting communities, supporting local businesses, and enabling broader participation in the formal financial system. Through CashPlus, many Namibians are
able to withdraw and deposit cash safely, conveniently, and affordably within their
own communities.
CashPlus is intentionally structured to be mutually beneficial. Agents are paid a commission directly by FNB Namibia for every eligible transaction processed, they attract additional footfall to their stores which may result in increased store sales and therefore creates an income-generating opportunity for local entrepreneurs while providing customers with accessible banking services.
This model is designed to empower both the agent and the customer, ensuring sustainability and trust across the CashPlus network. As agents are already compensated through commissions, they may not charge customers any additional fees. These principles are central to ensuring fairness and protecting the integrity of the service.
Addressing the matter, Rivan Meyer, transact pillar head at FNB Namibia, said: “CashPlus was introduced to make everyday banking more accessible, affordable and dignified for all Namibians, while also empowering local entrepreneurs, particularly in communities with limited access to traditional banking services. When the solution is used as intended, it benefits both customers and agents and
strengthens trust within the communities we serve.”
As trusted partners of FNB Namibia, CashPlus agents play an important role in extending banking services into communities. In doing so, agents are expected to operate transparently and fairly, ensure that no additional fees are charged to customers, and process transactions without imposing conditions such as
compulsory purchases.
FNB Namibia expresses its appreciation to CashPlus agents across the country who continue to uphold these principles and who play an integral role in ensuring banking services reach communities where they are needed most. To address the current challenges, FNB Namibia is engaging with its CashPlus
agents to reinforce awareness of the CashPlus Agreement and the purpose of the programme, while offering continued guidance and support to ensure alignment.
The Bank kindly appeals to all CashPlus agents to uphold both the terms and the intent of CashPlus, which remains vital in bringing financial services closer to where people live, work, and trade.
“We encourage all CashPlus agents to familiarise themselves with both the requirements and the purpose of the CashPlus Agreement. By doing so, agents help ensure that CashPlus continues to deliver fair, accessible and trusted banking services that positively impact the communities they serve,” Meyer added.
