AGIS puts green industries in focus
The African Green Industries Summit (AGIS) will bring together policymakers, industry leaders, investors and energy experts in Swakopmund on 9 and 10 September to discuss Africa's transition towards sustainable industrial development.
The summit will be held at the Swakopmund Hotel & Entertainment Centre under the patronage of the Namibian government and with the endorsement of the Ministry of Industries, Mines and Energy.
Held under the theme "Empowering African Industries for Sustainable Development", AGIS will focus on the role of renewable energy, green hydrogen and critical minerals in supporting Africa's industrialisation.
The organisers expect more than 600 delegates and 50 speakers at the two-day event.
The summit is positioned as a continental platform for discussions on green industrialisation, clean energy and sustainable economic development, with the programme covering energy, mining, infrastructure, finance, agriculture, transport and local content.
The programme
The opening day on Wednesday, 9 September, will begin with an opening ceremony and keynote address on "Africa's Vision: African Leadership in Green Industrialization and Climate Action".
Discussions will include the design of green industrial economies, energy systems for growing industrial demand, emerging renewable energy projects and the relationship between water, energy and industry in arid regions.
Other sessions will examine the integration of oil, gas and green hydrogen into Africa's industrialisation and energy transition, beneficiation and manufacturing value chains, and the electrification of mobility systems.
The second day will focus on green hydrogen as an industrial feedstock, agricultural solar projects, financing industrialisation and local content.
The programme will also examine Africa's potential in sustainable aviation fuel, infrastructure such as energy, rail and ports, and how environmental, social and governance principles can ensure communities benefit from the green transition.
A fireside chat will explore low-emission rail development in Namibia, before the summit concludes with a green industries ministerial panel.
