ANIREP-led JV wins Okatope solar bid
A joint venture between Alpha Namibia Industries Renewable Power (ANIREP), TotalEnergies and Sinco Investment One Hundred Seventy-Eight has been selected by NamPower for the Okatope solar photovoltaic project in the Oshikoto region.
The project will have 20MW of capacity for supplying electricity to the national grid, with the solar panels having a combined capacity of about 25.15MW.
It is expected to generate about 64GWh of electricity in its first full year of operation.
The Okatope project is one of six being procured by NamPower from independent power producers through a competitive international bidding process to increase Namibia's locally generated renewable energy capacity.
NamPower has issued the joint venture with a Notice for Selection of Award. The selection remains subject to a final award and the signing of a power purchase agreement and related agreements with NamPower.
The project will be located near the Okatope substation and will be developed by the joint venture under a development agreement between the three partners.
The partnership combines ANIREP's local renewable energy development and operating capabilities with TotalEnergies' international experience in developing, financing and operating renewable energy projects.
ANIREP managing director Iyaloо Ya Nangolo said the joint venture would work with NamPower and its partners to conclude the power purchase agreement and deliver the project under Namibia's Modified Single Buyer framework.
TotalEnergies EP Namibia managing director and country chair Mariam Kane-Garcia said the project would contribute to Namibia's electricity supply and the expansion of renewable energy generation.
ANIREP's subsidiary HopSol Africa has engineering, procurement and construction, as well as operations and maintenance capabilities, and is expected to provide technical support to the project.
The selection does not yet constitute a final award. The project remains subject to the conclusion of the required agreements with NamPower.
