Bank Windhoek has been named the “Bank of the Year: Namibia 2025” by The Banker Magazine, the world’s premier financial intelligence publication from the esteemed Financial Times group.

This prestigious accolade, widely regarded as the industry standard for banking excellence globally, marks the fourth time the Bank has received this international recognition. The award ceremony took place on Wednesday, 3 December 2025, in London, United Kingdom.

The Banker’s ‘Bank of the Year’ awards are judged on a rigorous, data-driven methodology that assesses a bank’s ability to deliver returns, gain strategic advantage and serve its market. Bank

Windhoek successfully demonstrated exceptional performance across four key pillars: Financial Strength, Digital Innovation, Service Excellence and Sustainable Development.

James Chapman, Bank Windhoek’s Managing Director, emphasised the significance of the award.

resilient, truly Namibian bank that contributes to Namibia’s growth and shared prosperity.”

Key Areas of Recognition by The Banker Judges

Digital Leadership and Innovation. The judges highlighted the Bank’s approach to digital security and access:

Facial Biometrics for Security and Access: The successful implementation of facial biometrics, significantly increasing security on the Mobile App and new internet banking, while also enabling secure, remote account opening for new customers, a key step in expanding financial access.

Digital Transformation Programme: The programme drove a substantial increase in the value transacted via digital platforms, supported by the launch of 24-hour Self-Service Banking Hubs.

Financial Inclusion and Service Excellence Bank Windhoek were commended for its commitment to a ‘customer-first’ approach, reflected in strong Net Promoter Scores (NPS) and innovative product development.

The Selekt Red Offering: This flagship proposition for the Retail Segment, which serves over 60% of the Bank’s customer base, was lauded for promoting financial inclusion. The offering provides flexible pricing and embedded bancassurance (funeral and legal cover).

Sustainability and National Leadership was a decisive factor

The Sustainability Loan: The formalisation of the annual Sustainability Loan offering was highlighted for its accessibility to all client segments, including individuals and SMEs, to fund small-scale, high-impact projects that contribute to a greener, more inclusive economy.

Chapman concluded that Bank Windhoek remains committed to building on this success, continuing to prioritise its customers and consistently deliver the exceptional experiences that define the institution.
