Bank Windhoek classified N$147 million in sustainable finance through 97 loans in the 2026 financial year, as the lender advances towards its N$300 million target.

The loans, averaging approximately N$1.5 million each, were issued primarily through the bank’s Sustainability Loan, which encourages qualifying clients to invest in environmental and social initiatives.

The facility is designed to support smaller-scale sustainability projects within defined eligibility thresholds.

Bank Windhoek chief treasurer Ian Erlank said the bank was seeking to balance economic objectives with environmental and social considerations.

“Sustainable finance is two-dimensional, and it must therefore include both environmental and socially related projects. By unlocking N$147 million through 97 loans, we are demonstrating that economic objectives can be sought alongside environmental and social impact. We are proud of this progress and remain firmly focused on reaching our N$300 million target,” Erlank said.

The bank said it had spent the past financial year addressing gaps that had hindered the identification and origination of eligible sustainability projects.

It plans to increase market awareness of its available financing options and accelerate lending towards its N$300 million target in the new financial year.

Erlank said the bank would continue exploring ways to improve its offerings and position itself as a preferred financier for sustainability-linked projects.
