Namibia ranks 90th out of 120 countries in the 2025 Chandler Good Government Index. Its strongest pillar is Robust Laws & Policies (49th), and its weakest is Helping People Rise (103rd).

Namibia's best performing subcomponents:

Addressing gender gaps in economic and educational opportunities (7th), with near-parity in school enrolment and labour-force participation between men and women supporting this result.

Price stability (24th). The five-year average inflation rate is 4.4% (2020-2024) - low by global standards, with comparatively modest volatility.

Long-term vision (32nd). Although perception-based, this aligns with regular multi-year national development plans (e.g. NDP6, Vision 2030).

Areas that weigh down the overall score:

Income distribution (120th), with Namibia’s 2023 pre-tax Gini coefficient estimated at 0.73 by UNU-WIDER.

Spending efficiency (118th), with weak or stagnant health and education outcomes, alongside a rising share of youth not in employment, education or training (NEET), indicating poor translation of public outlays into results.

Employment outcomes (117th). The 2023 Labour Force Survey reports a broad unemployment rate of 54.8% and a high share of informal work in non-agricultural employment.

In terms of overall scores on the continent, Namibia ranks 10th in Africa; with the top three being Mauritius, Rwanda and Botswana.
