EFN honours Namibia's top journalists
Journalists from Network Media Hub (NMH) publications were among the top winners at the Editors' Forum of Namibia (EFN) Journalism Awards, held at the Hilton Windhoek on Friday.
Mariud Ngula and Nikanor Nangolo were named joint winners of the MTC-sponsored Sports Journalist of the Year award. Sonja Smith, who recently joined NMH, received the B2Gold-sponsored Extractive Industries and Energy Journalism Award for her investigation, Deals, Dollars, & Dirty Oil – Unpacking Namcor's Corruption Saga.
The ceremony, held under the theme "Shaping Our Next Chapter for Viability", recognised excellence across a further eight journalism categories, with awards sponsored by Kadhila Amoomo Legal Practitioners, Old Mutual, the Bank of Namibia and the Communications Regulatory Authority of Namibia (CRAN).
Addressing guests, EFN chairperson Toivo Ndjebela paid tribute to the dedication and professionalism of journalists. "Behind every award is a journalist who chose to ask one more question, verify one more fact, travel one more kilometre or even spend one more sleepless night in pursuit of truth," he said.
He added: "The awards tonight honour not only outstanding stories but also the values that make journalism indispensable."
FNB Namibia, a longstanding partner of the EFN, was the event's principal sponsor, contributing N$250 000 towards the awards.
The annual awards recognise journalists whose work demonstrates excellence in reporting, while highlighting the role of independent, ethical journalism in informing the public and strengthening democracy.
