SanlamAllianz, in partnership with Shaetonhodi Optometrist, officially launched the sixth edition of its Vision for Change initiative at Coblenz Combined School this morning.

The opening ceremony was attended by learners, teachers, parents and community leaders, marking the beginning of a week-long programme from 6 to 13 October 2025 dedicated to advancing community eye care services for underprivileged learners.

This year’s initiative will provide comprehensive eye screenings to learners at 22 schools across the Otjozondjupa Region. More than 1 273 learners are expected to benefit, with 250
learners set to receive free spectacles and treatment to improve their vision and academic performance.

Since its inception in 2007, the SanlamAllianz Vision for Change initiative has screened over 2 520 learners, with more than 1 000 learners receiving spectacles to enhance their learning
experience. The 2025 edition builds on this legacy by providing an additional 280 children in the region with the opportunity to learn without the barrier of poor eyesight.

Speaking on behalf of SanlamAllianz, Laurencia Prinzonsky, manager for marketing and communications, highlighted the organisation’s continued commitment to education and
accessibility.

“Last year we donated 288 spectacles to learners in the Hardap Region, and this year we are determined to increase that number. No learner’s academic performance should suffer due to
unaffordable eye care. At Sanlam we believe education is the foundation of a prosperous future. Poor eyesight should never stand in the way of a child’s success. By providing these
glasses we are giving learners the confidence and clarity to excel.”

Mao Shaetonhodi, Founder of Shaetonhodi Optometrist, echoed this sentiment, emphasising the life changing impact of clear vision.

“We understand the profound effect that good eyesight has on a learner’s academic performance, social development and future opportunities. To ensure quality care, our team of qualified and experienced optometrists will conduct professional screenings, treatments and follow up care. This year we are also incorporating health education and referrals for complex cases. Learners who require spectacles will receive them within the next month.”
