FNB, RMB launch energy series
FNB Namibia and RMB Namibia have launched an educational series examining Namibia's emerging oil and gas industry and its potential impact on the wider economy.
The series, called Beyond the Barrel, aims to explain developments in the energy sector and the opportunities they could create for businesses, workers and other parts of the economy.
Namibia's offshore oil and gas discoveries have attracted growing international interest, with exploration and development activity raising expectations of increased investment and economic activity.
The initiative will examine the industry beyond offshore exploration, including potential opportunities across infrastructure, logistics, skills development and other parts of the energy value chain.
"Namibia's energy story extends far beyond what happens offshore. It has the potential to influence businesses, infrastructure, skills development, logistics and broader economic participation," said Angelique Peake, group head of oil and gas strategy at FNB and RMB Namibia.
"Through Beyond the Barrel, we want to make these conversations easier to understand and help more Namibians engage meaningfully with this important chapter in our country's development," she said.
The series will cover the fundamentals of offshore oil and gas exploration as well as developments and opportunities emerging across the wider value chain.
Contributors from FNB Namibia and RMB Namibia include Peake, Olavi Hangula, oil, gas and energy sector relationship manager at RMB Namibia; Carly Van Der Merwe, growth and energy sector strategist at FNB Namibia; and Naftal Akweenda, oil, gas and energy sector relationship manager at FNB Namibia.
Peake said greater understanding of the sector would be important as Namibia considers how to capture wider economic benefits from its energy resources.
"Our aim is not simply to explain the energy industry, but to encourage informed conversations about how Namibia can maximise the opportunities emerging from it," she said.
"Understanding the industry is an important first step towards identifying where businesses and individuals can participate."
The first episode of Beyond the Barrel has been released on FNB Namibia's YouTube channel and LinkedIn page.
