IPN launches website for national instant payments programme
STAFF REPORTER

Instant Payments Namibia (IPN) has launched its official website as part of efforts to improve public awareness and stakeholder engagement around Namibia’s national instant payments programme.

The website, www.ipn.com.na, provides information about the Instant Payment Programme, the Namibia Instant Payment Solution (IPS) and WayaMe, the consumer-facing brand for payment services enabled by the system.

IPN said the website would provide a central source of information for Namibians, participating financial institutions, businesses, the media and other stakeholders interested in the development of the country’s instant payments ecosystem.

Connecting payment providers

IPN is a subsidiary of the Bank of Namibia established to operate and manage the IPS.

The website explains how the solution is designed to connect participating banks, payment service providers and electronic money issuers through shared payment infrastructure, common rules and technical standards.

WayaMe is intended to provide a consistent consumer-facing identity for instant payment services across participating providers.

Customers will continue to use the applications, wallets, USSD services and other channels provided by their respective banks and payment service providers.

Phased rollout

The website also provides information about the phased development of the IPS and the payment services it is intended to support.

These include person-to-person transfers, merchant payments, business and government disbursements, as well as selected cash-in, cash-out and ATM services.

IPN said availability would depend on participating providers and approved use cases.

The website includes information on the programme's objectives, including interoperability, affordability, safety and financial inclusion.

It also provides frequently asked questions, participation requirements for licensed institutions and updates on programme milestones.

A news section will carry official announcements, media statements and other developments as the programme progresses.

Supporting national payment goals

IPN said the Instant Payment Solution was a key enabler of the National Payment System Vision 2030, supporting the development of a more inclusive, interoperable and digitally enabled payments ecosystem.

It said making information about the programme easier to access and understand would help build public awareness and confidence as the solution is introduced in phases.
