Mobile Telecommunications Limited (MTC) has commissioned a temporary containerised store at the Stop & Shop area in Okuryangava, Katutura, as the company finalises plans for a permanent structure in the same location by end of September 2026.

The temporary store is expected to operate for four months and forms part of a broader national rollout to expand MTC's retail footprint in high-density areas.

Tim Ekandjo, chief marketing, communications, branding and sustainability officer, said the move was driven by the need to maintain a presence in one of Windhoek's busiest commercial areas while longer-term construction plans were concluded.

"We realised we still need to have a presence at this important vicinity to ensure that our services are accessible to the community, while we are finalising our plans for a more permanent structure," he said.

Ekandjo noted that Windhoek's population stands at approximately 537,000 and is growing by an estimated 17,600 people annually, a year-on-year rate of 3.39%. He said those figures reflected a rapidly expanding customer base in one of Katutura's most active commercial catchment areas.

The store will offer high-speed Wi-Fi, mobile plans and business solutions.

MTC confirmed that further expansion is planned, with new mobile homes set for Okongo and Walvis Bay, and the Ongwediva store due to relocate to a larger space within Oshana Mall.
