Namibia's top Arabian horses dazzled at a national show blending tradition, elegance, and international flair.
The Arabian Horse Breeders Society of Namibia hosted a highly successful National Championship from 27 to 28 June at the Rolé Equestrian Centre outside Windhoek. With 60 horses participating in a range of competition classes, the event highlighted the strength, elegance, and versatility of Namibia’s Arabian horses. The show, proudly sponsored by Gobabis Toyota, attracted breeders and riders from across the country, with classes open to both purebred Arabians and other breeds, such as Boerperde and Aweishas.
“This was our showcase event of the year,” said organiser Marleen Esterhuizen.
“It’s where our breeders display the results of their passion, hard work, and dedication.”
Despite a challenging season marked by widespread disease, the championship created a festive atmosphere. Spectators were treated to a variety of events, including the much-anticipated Liberty class – where horses perform free to music and the dramatic costume class, featuring horses in traditional Arabian war attire.
International guests, including judge Glenys Lilley, owner of Foxwood Arabians in Australia, and visitors from South Africa, witnessed the rising global profile of Namibia’s Arabian horse industry. With horses performing strongly on the world stage, the show affirmed Namibia’s standing in elite equestrian circles.
