NSA renews Shimuafeni's term
Alex Shimuafeni has been reappointed as statistician-general of the Namibia Statistics Agency (NSA) for another five years.
His new term will run from 1 October 2026 to 30 September 2031, the NSA said.
Shimuafeni was first appointed in 2016 and his contract was renewed for a second term from April 2021 to March 2026. The NSA board extended his term until the end of September this year.
The board said his tenure included the completion of the 2023 Population and Housing Census and the publication of several thematic reports between 2024 and 2026.
Shimuafeni will oversee the development and implementation of the NSA's 2027-2032 strategic plan, which is being aligned with the government's Sixth National Development Plan.
The board said the plan would focus on statistical coordination, governance and evidence-based planning to support economic development and regional development across Namibia's 14 regions.
Under the Statistics Act, the NSA board appoints the statistician-general with the approval of the minister responsible for statistics.
