“Many shopping centres today are challenged by a fluctuating visitor count and pressure on tenant turnover. These challenges have grave consequences, resulting in shops and even entire shopping malls closing all over the world. The enormous amount of online spending further shows that consumers have their shopping needs covered online, resulting in less frequent visits to their local shopping mall. Although this might be one of the reasons for fluctuating visitor count and lack of tenant revenue, the retail consumer still has a penchant for physically visiting a store in a centre or Mall,” says Edelweiss Junius, new Centre Manager for the Gustav Voigts, Baines Shopping Centre and Urban Village at Elisenheim – all retail properties owned by Oryx Properties Limited.
She expressed her excitement about her new role, the new central office and all the happenings at the various Oryx properties she manages. “Did you know that there are numerous new tenants at Gustav Voigts including a new Seattle Coffee Shop, a chocolate store and more exciting shops are in the pipeline. Our anchor tenant Checkers is also busy with an internal upgrade that will see a brand-new Checkers offering the latest and best that the renowned supermarket has to offer, and we guarantee an enhanced shopping experience for everyone,” she enthused.
At the Baines shopping centre, a new look and feel is also visible. “We have been busy with several changes there and have had positive feedback from the customers who use this shopping centre regularly. All the ATMs were relocated to a centralised point that adds to a more secure environment for our customers and some smaller stores were created for our local entrepreneurs. We invite everyone to pop by and see for themselves how Baines is changing and improving. Feedback from our tenants and consumers is always taken seriously and we are addressing these as speedily as possible.
The three Oryx shopping malls and centres under Edelweiss’ management are all unique in their own way and worth a visit. “We are proud of Gustav Voigts which was the country’s first mall, and it offers exclusive shops such as Nakara, Safariland, and the only Patrick Mavros Jeweller in Namibia. Baines in Pionierspark also has its attractions such as a retail supermarket and restaurant which are open late and a pet shop, City Pets with its own doggy parlour. Our latest addition to the mall stable at Oryx – the very popular Urban Village Elisenheim – is a lifestyle centre with a natural environment and open-air seating where you can enjoy a pizza at Slice Above and a cold beer. We are also proud to welcome Elisenheim Veterinary Clinic which boasts a brand-new theatre. This village also boasts a pre-primary school namely Tiny Tots and Tall Tales which is a unique phenomenon in our country.”
Edelweiss welcomes anyone to her new office which is situated at the Gustav Voigts Centre and from which various responsibilities such as cleaning, parking area management, security services, liaison with the centre’s tenants, event planning and marketing are taken care of.
