My.Na Properties had the privilege of sitting down with Pepe Olivotto, the visionary behind Pepe Construction CC, a company that has left an indelible mark on Namibia's landscape with its construction of iconic lodges like Shipwreck Lodge and Ongoshi Lodge. In a candid interview, Olivotto shared his journey from being a tour guide to the mastermind behind Pepe Construction.
Originally hailing from Italy, Olivotto chose Namibia as the base for his business, citing the country's favourable business environment.
"Namibia is a really good place for business. I initially came here to be a tour guide, and once I reached a certain age, I realised that I could not be a tour guide forever and decided to go back to my first profession, which was a carpenter."

Close to nature
Pepe Construction's uniqueness lies in its deep connection with nature, evident in projects like the Skeleton Coast Lodge.
Constructed 800 km from Windhoek, the lodge presented challenges such as sandy gravel roads and stringent environmental regulations due to its location in a national park. Olivotto emphasised the importance of respecting the local ecosystem, stating: "There were lions and elephants freely roaming while we were busy constructing there."
Another noteworthy project is the Zannier Sonop Lodge, built atop granite boulders in the south. Olivotto described the challenges faced, including constructing walkways between the boulders and a driveway for a golf car. The result is a breathtaking view of the Namib desert.

Partnership
Discussing Pepe Construction's venture into composite decks, Olivotto introduced MoistureShield, a prominent American company. The collaboration arose from a unique twist of fate. Initially deemed too small by MoistureShield due to their low shipment frequency, Olivotto's persistence and a shared fascination for the kudu brought the company director to Namibia.
"We managed to get him his kudu, and then he was open to discussing business. And that is how we got MoistureShield to southern Africa."
Olivotto's passion for the bush and commitment to sustainable practices shine through Pepe Construction's projects. The use of composite decks, comprising recycled plastic and sawdust wood, exemplifies their dedication to eco-friendly solutions. As Olivotto stated: "95% of this product is recycled and recyclable, making it more durable and long-lasting."
